The first thing that comes to mind when you hear the name "Swedish Egil" is of course, is he really Swedish? The answer is unmistakably yes. Born in Malmo, Sweden, Egil's musical career began when he started working as a DJ in the active club circuit in Scandinavia and all over Europe. Then, in 1976 Egil left Sweden for the United States. Landing in Los Angeles, he quickly became a DJ, music director and booking agent for several major nightclubs and special events including post-Oscar and Grammy parties. Egil DJ’ed at clubs and events all over the Los Angeles area including the Playboy Mansion. In 1982, Egil joined the most progressive radio station in the nation, KROQ-FM, with its "Rock of the 80s" format. Egil utilized his extensive musical background to create instant overnight buzz on KROQ. In addition to his on-air DJ duties, Egil hosted, produced and/or created special feature programming for KROQ including Love-Line and Reggae Revolution. He helped break many artists into the mainstream including NEW ORDER, DEPECHE MODE, NIRVANA, RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS, and UB40.
